Introduction A friend recently posted a powerful observation about idolatry among Christians, highlighting that Satan often works not by removing God from our lives but by tempting us to add to Him. It struck a chord with me, and I felt led to expand on this truth, explore it through the lens of Scripture, and lovingly encourage others to examine their own hearts. Understanding the Warning Idolatry today doesn’t always come in the form of statues or foreign deities. For the believer, it often comes cloaked in good things, necessary things, or socially accepted things. It's not Jesus versus something else, but Jesus plus something else. That “plus” is what robs us of the fullness of Christ's sufficiency. In ancient Israel, as my friend noted, people rarely outright rejected YHWH. Instead, they added Ba’al or Asherah to their worship. They thought they could have both. But God made it clear: “You shall have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20:3). ...
