The concept of the "Seven Deadly Sins" has captivated minds for centuries
—Less as a list of rules and more as a mirror. A mirror that exposes the inclinations of the human heart when left unchecked. Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride
—Each sin offers a glimpse into the internal battle we all face, and each one reveals how desperately we need God's grace.
In this image series, we don’t just identify these sins
—We confront them through the lens of Scripture, raw honesty, prayer, and powerful visual storytelling. Inspired by classical oil paintings, each sin is represented through thought-provoking imagery generated with modern technology and paired with a spiritual breakdown designed to help both believers and seekers navigate the deep waters of conviction and freedom.
Why We Took On This Series
The goal wasn’t to shame but to illuminate. Sin thrives in the dark, but freedom lives in the light. Our hope is that this series would serve as a tool for self-examination, not condemnation. A journey into what’s broken in us, so we can bring it to the One who makes all things new.
As we explored each sin, we asked the hard questions:
What lies am I believing?
Where have I tried to satisfy my soul apart from God?
What am I feeding? My flesh or my spirit?
What You’ll Find In Each Post:
A one-paragraph explanation of the sin from both a cultural and biblical perspective
A breakdown including:
Core Lie + Root Issue + Spiritual Weapon + Key Scripture +Counter Truth + Reflection Prompt + A Closing Prayer

A Glimpse at Each Sin:
1. Lust – Driven by the craving for instant gratification, it whispers, "I want it now." We counter it with purity and walking in the Spirit.

In today’s world, lust is often confused with love, glamorized in entertainment, and excused as “natural.” It feeds on the craving for instant gratification, reducing people to objects and relationships to transactions.
But Scripture shows us a deeper truth—lust is a distortion of the good desire God gave us for intimacy, twisted by the flesh to serve self rather than glorify Him. Whether you’re a believer or not, unchecked lust leads to brokenness, emptiness, and shame. But God offers something greater: fulfillment through purity, purpose through self-control, and freedom through walking by His Spirit.
• Core Lie: “I want it now.”
• Root Issue: Fleshly craving for instant gratification
• Weapon: Purity + Self-Control
• Key Scripture: Galatians 5:16 – “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
• Counter Truth: You don’t need more dopamine — you need deeper desire for Him.
• Reflection Prompt: Where am I choosing pleasure over God’s presence?
• Prayer: Jesus, teach me to crave You more than temporary satisfaction. Fill me with Your Spirit and renew my desires.
2. Gluttony – A soul reaching for comfort in excess instead of Christ. We fight it with discipline and spiritual hunger for the Word of God.

In a culture driven by indulgence, gluttony often hides behind comfort, convenience, and celebration. It’s not just about overeating—it’s about seeking satisfaction in anything that overfeeds the body while starving the soul. Whether it’s food, entertainment, or material things, gluttony promises relief but leaves us emptier inside.
Biblically, gluttony is a heart issue—a misdirected hunger for what only God can satisfy. True fulfillment doesn’t come from more, but from knowing the One who is enough.
• Core Lie: “More. More. More.”
• Root Issue: Trying to fill the soul with food, comfort, or excess
• Weapon: Discipline
• Key Scripture: Matthew 4:4 – “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
• Counter Truth: Say no to your stomach. Feed your soul.
• Reflection Prompt: What am I consuming in excess, and what am I starving spiritually?
• Prayer: Lord, help me to find satisfaction in You. Train my heart to crave what truly nourishes.
3. Greed – The lie that more possessions mean more worth. Generosity and surrender break its grip.
Greed is the insatiable desire to have more...more money, more success, more status—fueled by the belief that what we have is never enough.
In the world’s eyes, ambition is praised, but greed twists ambition into obsession.
Biblically, greed is idolatry (Colossians 3:5) because it shifts our trust from God to things. It deceives us into thinking security, joy, and identity can be purchased or earned. But in truth, the richest soul is the one content in Christ.
• Core Lie: “If I have more, I’ll finally be secure.”
• Root Issue: Misplaced trust in wealth or possessions instead of God
• Weapon: Contentment + Generosity
• Key Scripture: Luke 12:15 – “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
• Counter Truth: You already have everything you need in Christ.
• Reflection Prompt: Am I holding anything tighter than I’m holding onto God?
• Prayer: Jesus, free me from the grip of greed. Teach me to live with open hands and a content heart.
4. Sloth – Not just laziness but spiritual apathy. Purpose and diligence are our weapons.
Sloth is more than just laziness...it’s a spiritual apathy that resists what is good, true, and purposeful. In the world, it can look like procrastination, lack of motivation, or constantly choosing comfort over calling.
Biblically, sloth is dangerous because it neglects the work God has called us to do—whether that’s loving others, pursuing holiness, or fulfilling our unique purpose. It’s not just doing nothing; it’s failing to do what matters most.
• Core Lie: “I’ll do it later.”
• Root Issue: Avoidance of responsibility and resistance to God-given purpose
• Weapon: Diligence
• Key Scripture: Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”
• Counter Truth: Work like it’s worship—because it is.
• Reflection Prompt: Where in my life am I choosing comfort over calling?
• Prayer: “Lord, reignite my passion and focus. Help me to see my work—big or small—as an offering to You. Strengthen me to act when I’d rather delay.”
5. Wrath – The explosion of uncontrolled anger. Godly restraint and forgiveness are how we overcome.
Wrath is more than just anger...it’s anger left unchecked, fueled by pride, hurt, or injustice. The world often justifies wrath by calling it “passion” or “righteous anger,” but when left unsubmitted to God, it destroys relationships, peace, and our witness.
Biblically, wrath is a work of the flesh (Galatians 5:19–21) that gives way to vengeance and bitterness, distancing us from the mercy and grace of God. God calls us not to suppress our anger, but to surrender it—because justice belongs to Him, not us.
• Core Lie: “They deserve it.”
• Root Issue: A desire to control or punish in place of trusting God’s justice
• Weapon: Forgiveness
• Key Scripture: Romans 12:19 – “Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”
• Counter Truth: Let it go. God is the judge — not you.
• Reflection Prompt: Who or what am I still holding in judgment instead of releasing to God?
• Prayer: “Father, I release my anger into Your hands. Teach me to forgive as You have forgiven me. Replace wrath with peace, and vengeance with trust in Your justice.”
6. Envy – Resentment over another’s blessing. Gratitude and contentment starve this sin.
Envy is the restless desire for what others have... their success, their possessions, their relationships, their appearance. In the world, it’s normalized through comparison and competition.
But in Scripture, envy is a corrosive sin that distorts gratitude and blinds us to the blessings God has already provided. It shifts our focus from God’s provision to man’s possessions, breeding resentment instead of praise. Left unchecked, envy hardens the heart and can lead to division, bitterness, and rebellion against God’s will.
• Core Lie: “Why not me?”
• Root Issue: A lack of contentment and trust in God’s goodness
• Weapon: Gratitude
• Key Scripture: James 3:16 – “For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.”
• Counter Truth: Look at your blessings. Then thank Him out loud.
• Reflection Prompt: Where am I resenting others instead of rejoicing in what God has given me?
• Prayer: “Lord, help me to celebrate others and be content with what You’ve entrusted to me. Teach me to count my blessings with joy.”
7. Pride – The root of all sin. It says, "I don’t need God." Humility and awe before God dethrone it.
Pride is a subtle and dangerous sin that exalts the self above God and others. In a worldly sense, pride is often celebrated as self-confidence, self-sufficiency, or personal achievement.
But from a biblical perspective, pride is the refusal to acknowledge our dependence on God. It says, “I’ve got this,” while quietly dismissing the One who gave us every breath and blessing. Pride blinds us to our need for grace and keeps us from true surrender. It elevates ego over humility, and self over Savior.
• Core Lie: “I’ve got this.”
• Root Issue: Trusting self instead of God
• Weapon: Humility
• Key Scripture: Proverbs 16:18 – “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
• Counter Truth: You didn’t get here alone.
• Reflection Prompt: Where in my life am I taking credit for what God has done?
• Prayer: “Father, humble my heart. Remind me daily that every gift, talent, and moment I have comes from You. Keep me surrendered to Your will, not my own.”
