Why Did God Require Sacrifices in the Bible?

1. To Show the Seriousness of Sin

Sin is not just a mistake—it separates us from a holy God (Isaiah 59:2). Sacrifices served as a visible reminder that sin brings death.

2. To Provide a Temporary Covering for Sin

In the Old Testament, animal sacrifices offered atonement—a covering—for sin. They allowed people to be temporarily reconciled to God.

📖 Leviticus 17:11 – “It is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.”

But this was not permanent. The blood of animals couldn’t remove sin completely—it pointed forward to something greater.

3. To Foreshadow the Sacrifice of Jesus
