What does it really mean to be free?

You can be physically free and still be spiritually imprisoned.

You can have money and still be enslaved by greed. You can be successful and still be controlled by the opinions of others. You can have every opportunity in the world and still be chained to fear, guilt, shame, addiction, anger, bitterness, lust, or unforgiveness.

But Jesus came to set the captives free. ✝️

“So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.”
John 8:36

Freedom in Christ isn’t the freedom to do whatever we want.

Biblical freedom is being no longer controlled by what once controlled us.

Jesus didn’t come simply to make our prison cell more comfortable. He came to open the door, break the chains, and call us to follow Him.

⛓️‍đŸ’Ĩ Some of us are asking Jesus to break chains He has already broken, while we keep walking back into the same familiar prison cell.

But familiar doesn’t mean freedom.

Through Christ, we can experience freedom from guilt, condemnation, slavery to sin, fear, religious performance, and the identity of who we used to be.

And remember, we aren’t only set free FROM something. We are set free TO:

🙏đŸŊ Worship God
❤️ Love and forgive others
🤲đŸŊ Serve wholeheartedly
📖 Walk in truth
🕊️ Walk by the Spirit
✝️ Become more like Jesus

One of the most important truths from today’s devotional:

We don’t obey Jesus to earn salvation. We obey Jesus because He saved us.

That’s the difference between trying to earn God’s love and responding to the love and grace He has already shown us.

Maybe you don’t feel free today. Maybe you’ve tried everything. Maybe you’re carrying years of shame, bondage, addiction, or something nobody else knows about.

Hear this:

Jesus already knew everything about you when He went to the cross.

Your sin didn’t surprise Him. Your failure didn’t surprise Him. Yet He willingly gave His life for you.

The Gospel isn’t:

Fix yourself, then come to Jesus.

The Gospel invitation is:

✝️ Come to Jesus. Trust Him. Follow Him. Allow the Holy Spirit to transform you from the inside out.

I can tell you from my own life:

I’m not perfect, but I’m not who I used to be.

And that is a testimony of God’s grace. 🙌đŸŊ

đŸ’Ŧ Question of the Day

What is one thing Jesus has set you free from, and are there any old chains you’re tempted to pick back up?

You don’t have to share anything you’re uncomfortable sharing, but remember, your testimony of freedom may give hope to someone who believes freedom isn’t possible for them.

🔓 Jesus didn’t set you free so you could return to the chains He broke.
